Aquatic Babies
We are all water babies.......
Babies are born with the potential to be joyful and naturally free in the water.
When allowed to explore and practice this potential over time with consistency,
children can swim freely with ease and grace.
Aquanatbabies is not just about swimming
It’s an educational program and a way of life.
With the parents’ and instructor’s help, babies are empowered to do swim by themselves.
• Aquanat’s teaching style is flexible and holistic, with your baby’s needs put first.
Although in essence the developmental stages are set and
universal, each child is unique and develops different abilities at
different stages. Therefore, a program has to suit the baby’s needs
and readiness, not the other way around.
• In a warm (34-35C°) and active environment all year round, lessons are designed to accommodate
and stimulate your baby’s development using games, songs, and fun activities.
• Lessons flow with the natural rhythm of each child with clear detailed guidance for the parents -
thus trust, joy and freedom in the
water are accomplished.
• The way we touch, hold, respond and communicate with our baby in the water
greatly impact his/her well-being and ability to learn.
Our program integrate concepts from other programs such as the Halliwick Method
and the aquatic bodywork such as Watsu®, HealingDance, WaterDance and Jahara’s technics.
• Games take a big roll in babies’ development. Playing is the “work” babies do
to learn about their surrounding world.
Games supply ways to explore and test the senses: hearing, seeing, tasting and touching.
Through games the child develops motor-skills, muscles strength, intellect, language and sociability.
All of that just for fun, so he is not aware of how hard he’s “working”.
• Interest is vital for learning so as we follow the child’s inborn curiousity ,
we then ultimately support the learning process.
The ways we teach at Aquanat follow this interest, so the child can explore and grow in a natural way.
• Small groups of babies in a lesson result in a relaxed and perfect environment for babies
to explore and develop new skills,
as well as allowing our instructors to be attentive and fully present throughout the lesson.
• In time, our babies demonstrate new levels of confidence, focus, independence and openness
towards new activities that they take with them to all areas of life.
The benefit of swimming lessons for babies:
Early age water activities proven to improve development:
• Improving all aspect of physical skills like:
strength, resilience, stamina, endurance, synchronization Agility, coordination.
• Strengthening baby’s cardiovascular (Lung & Heart)
• Encouraging confidence
• Early language development skills
• Helping regularity of sleeping patterns by practicing relaxation
Your baby most likely gains early aquatic awareness and swimming skills.
And don’t forget there’s: “fun & Joy” for both parent and baby.
When to start?
Many parents inquire about the “right” time for their baby to start swimming.
The answer is:
The sooner the better!
However the following could be guidelines and tips:
• Not before he is more than 9 lbs/4 kg and the umbilical cord or any other circumcision is fully healed.
• No hurry!! As the diving reflex is remains well after 6 month, up until the baby is 1 year old.
• For young babies, a large noisy swimming pool can be quite overwhelming.
• Water temperature need to be at lease around 35C° and air by the pool or in the changing room needs to be
warm and soothing
If you want to start in your own bath, you can start the moment your baby arrives home.
We can advise you if you contact us on 08-92035553.
As the baby’s immune systems strengthen up, at the age of 10 weeks,
he or she is ready to start coming to our pool.
We run classes for young people from 10 weeks to 5 years old,
and the program is designed to be continues and progressive.
More about the Diving Reflex
Babies are born with the ability to hold their breath when going under the water.
There are so many contradicting researches about the diving reflex.
Wide range of physiological characters in human beings can be indication of a semi-aquatic phase in human prehistory.
One of them is the diving reflex.
For more information regarding this theory: Aquatic mammals
Another theory claims that the diving reflex can only occur in water temperature less than 21°C.
However, years of teaching aquatic babies showed us that the majority of new born don’t need a lot of instruction to dive and hold their breath.
There are also many researches about physiology impact of submersion on the human body.
A good book about this will be: “comprehensive Aquatic Therapy” by Bruce E. Becker and Andrew J. Cole.
